Jessie J, The Vamps and Kaiser Chiefs are to headline pet charity PDSA’s brand new festival. The pop acts are honoured to be part of the first music and animal extravaganza of its kind, which will celebrate the nation’s love of pets and raise funds for their care.

PDSA PetLife Festival ’18 will take place at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire, England on Sunday May 6, 2018, with all proceeds going to PDSA [People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals], the UK’s leading pet well-being organisation.

‘Price Tag’ hitmaker Jessie – who has a pooch called Jackson – said: “Pets are a wonderful part of our lives. My French Bulldog, Jackson, makes me smile every day. As well as raising funds for a great cause, PDSA PetLife’18 combines people’s love of pets and music; two of my favourite things! I simply can’t wait.”

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, owner of a Labradoodle called Norman Reedus, commented: “Two things the UK loves are pets and music, so why has no one thought of this before? We’re all looking forward to PDSA PetLife’18 and raising funds and awareness for PDSA to continue its great work.”

And cat lover and owner James McVey from The Vamps added: “My cat Mickey means the world to me.

“I know I can provide the vet care he needs, but not everyone is so fortunate and that’s why PDSA is so important.

“We’re all looking forward to this special gig and raising much-needed funds for such a great charity.”

Jan McLoughlin, PDSA Director General, added: “As long as there are pets in need, there is a need for PDSA. Since we were founded 100 years ago, the world has changed so much. Yet we remain a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of the UK’s most vulnerable pets – and their loving owners. Throughout our incredible history we have relied on the generosity of the public to support our invaluable work in saving, protecting and healing pets. The money we raise from events like this, alongside all of our other fundraising and awareness activity, will help ensure we can be here for vulnerable pets for the next 100 years.”

Tickets for PDSA PetLife’18 are on sale now at PetLife.org.uk

Singer Jessie J is supporting the Stroke Association’s campaign Lost for Words and she wants you to join her. Around one in three people in Scotland have aphasia, a communication disability which can be caused by stroke. The charity’s Lost for Words campaign aims to raise awareness of the challenges this can cause for people who have had a stroke and their families.

Jessie J said: “Having a stroke turns your life upside down in an instant and it was the scariest experience of my life. I’m one of the lucky ones who’s recovered well, but many other stroke survivors aren’t so lucky, and have lost their speech or can’t read or write. I can’t imagine what that must be like, which is why I’ve got so much respect and admiration for the survivors who every day are finding different ways to express themselves again.

“The Stroke Association’s Lost for Words campaign is brilliant because it’s highlighting this problem and raising funds for its work supporting the people who need it. That’s why I’m backing Lost for Words, and I hope you will too.”

Andrea Cail, Director Scotland at the Stroke Association, said: “Many stroke survivors tell us just how terrifying and isolating it can be to have aphasia. But with the right help and support, many people are able to find new ways to communicate, and can rebuild their lives.”

The charity is urging people to show their support for stroke survivors who are lost for words and make a donation. For more information, click below:

Hey Jessie! You’ve just done your first UK shows in a while. What’s it been like to be back on stage?

“It was really, really good. I’m so excited to be back. It’s always weird seeing my Mum and Dad in the crowd because I kinda just stare at them and then think, sh*t, there’s another 1,400 people to look at!

The song’s you’ve put out so far from the new album – Think About That and Not My Ex – are a pretty drastic switch-up in your sound, aren’t they?

“Yeah, they are different. It’s a new energy. I’m in a different place in my life. I’m not saying I’m a different person – I’m still me, but I’ve grown a lot and learned a lot and I wanted to write in a different way on this record.”

Your sounds has always been quite radio friendly, whereas these new songs feel like you’re almost rebelling against that.

“Honestly, I was just writing. I was just being an artist. It’s not about the media or what other people think. I am doing this for myself. “Who You Are was before the fame and this stuff is very much after great success and things that haven’t gone so great, and being in the public eye. Having that experience and coming out of it, if I keep on going down this road of just putting out songs that I haven’t written, in a genre that isn’t really dear to my heart, I’m kinda treading dangerous waters. I need to nurture and feed the side of me that is why I did this in the first place.

“This is not me saying I’m never going to do another Bang Bang, but for me to do another Bang Bang, I need to do a Think About That as well. Instead of me being 90% outside in and 10% inside out, it’s now the opposite for me.”
